Advanced Wastewater Treatment

Celtic Anglian Water (CAW) have been the Operations and Maintenance Contractor at the Ringsend Waste Water Treatment Works since 1999. The Works is one of the most innovative and technologically advanced of its kind in Europe and it includes the largest two-tiered Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) process plant in the world with the total secondary treatment volume equivalent to 130 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Maximising the Energy Potential of the Wastewater Stream

The Works has at its core one of the most advanced combinations of Sludge Treatment technologies available, which maximises the energy generating potential of the wastewater stream, generating 50% of the energy requirements for the Works – enough electrical energy to power up to 6,000 domestic homes.

Environmentally Sustainable

The by-products of the Sludge Treatment Processes are converted into “Biofert’’. Biofert is an organic-based nutrient-rich fertiliser, which meets the Class A Biosolid standard. The Works supplies 18,000 tonnes of this quality product annually for recycling onto agricultural lands.

Contributing to the Recreational Amenity of Dublin Bay

The four stage advanced treatment processes at Ringsend Works ensures that the final effluent being discharged into Dublin Bay is of the highest quality and complies with the highest EU standards set and has made a major contribution to  recreational amenity features of Dublin Bay

Ringsend is fundamental to maintaining the water quality in Dublin Bay and its surrounding “Blue Flag” beaches.
