Holiday Villages
UK“Through our additional support during emergency events and periods of high occupancy, the holiday villages have been able to continue serving its customers to consistently high standards.”
The Background
A household name and family favourite holiday company operates five holiday villages across the UK providing luxury accommodation and activity centres.
Two of their sites in the UK have on-site treatment plants to treat the wastewater generated by the holiday villages prior to discharge to the environment.
Both plants use sophisticated MBR (membrane bioreactor) technology to produce a high-quality treated effluent. One of them also has the possibility to re-use part of the effluent for lake top up once treated via reverse osmosis.
The Service
Since 2016, Alpheus has provided Operations and Management support to both sites. Our services include: delivering Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) services; maintenance of specialist equipment (e.g. instrumentation, blowers); membrane cleans triggered by monitoring of the transmembrane pressure and flows; and a membrane supply and replacement service.
In addition, we also separately support the operation and maintenance of the borehole water treatment plant for potable supply at a third site.
The Implementation
At the start of the contract, we prepared and delivered a training programme to the site staff and prepared detailed site management plans. We also set up the capture and monitoring of site data and reporting (e.g. biological treatment performance and transmembrane pressure and flux). Additionally, we have also set up the effluent monitoring and reporting regime to comply with the requirements of the sites’ environmental permits.
At one of the sites, we provided support during storm Doris and were involved in the subsequent clear-up and repair. We also delivered additional support services (e.g. an external balancing and pumping system) whilst major plant upgrades were carried out.
The Outcomes
Our work with the holiday villages has delivered significant performance improvements in water and wastewater management. Better understanding of plant and membrane system operation alongside improved whole-plant PPMs has contributed to more proactive plant management and resilience.
Better membrane management through active monitoring and proactive cleaning has led to longer membrane life and associated cost savings. In addition, an improved sampling and monitoring regime has contributed to strengthen the sites’ environmental management systems and monitoring of plant compliance.
Through our additional support during emergency events and periods of high occupancy, the holiday villages have been able to continue serving its customers to consistently high standards.
